Today was M's Little Chef day. Thanks to his teacher, with a little bit of planning, he was able to cook (and eat!) everything the other children did. What a wonderful day.
The menu was DIY pizzas, salads, and ice cream sundaes.
His teacher and I decided to make the pizza dough from scratch instead of using pre-made dough like in years past, and bake them ahead of time. It was a little more work, but it was something all the children enjoyed, and I would definitely do it again.
I sent in a little container of tomato sauce for him, and he was able to choose from a few of the available toppings. The cheese was standard dye-free mozzarella, so that was no problem. He had to pass on the pepperoni, but the anchovies were fine!
The salad was easy, he just avoided the dressing. And as for the ice cream sundae, I sent in a single-serving container of additive-free ice cream along with mini chocolate chips and crushed freeze-dried strawberries for toppings. If he minded having the same things as he had for Christmas cookie decorating last year in K4, he didn't mention it.
All his alternative ingredients were labelled and set up with the rest of them, so he could rotate through the stations just like everyone else, without a hitch.
